What is ExoTMS®?
ExoTMS® is a patented Transcranial Magnetic Stimulation (TMS) technology, cleared by the FDA, that targets specific areas of the brain involved in regulating mood, anxiety, and stress. At AlmaraClinic, it is used in treatment protocols for depression, anxiety, and other mental health conditions.
How does the treatment work?
ExoTMS® uses magnetic fields to non-invasively stimulate brain circuits associated with depression and anxiety. Each session is performed on an outpatient basis, with no anaesthesia, no surgery, and no hospitalisation required.
Is the treatment painful?
Most people describe the sensation as a gentle tapping or light knocking over the treatment area. Mild discomfort at the beginning of the session is normal and usually decreases as your body becomes accustomed to the stimulation.
How many treatment sessions will I need?
The number of sessions depends on the initial clinical assessment, the diagnosis, and your individual response to treatment. Each session lasts between 20 and 30 minutes, and your complete treatment protocol is determined by our medical team following the NeuroCheck® assessment and specialist consultations.
When will I start seeing results?
Results vary from person to person. Some patients notice improvements within the first few weeks of treatment, while others experience more gradual progress throughout the full treatment protocol. Outcomes are based on published clinical studies but may vary depending on each individual's clinical profile.
What conditions is ExoTMS® indicated for?
ExoTMS® has recognised indications for major depressive disorder and treatment-resistant depression, and is also used in treatment protocols for anxiety and obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD). The suitability of the treatment is always confirmed following a clinical assessment.
Does ExoTMS® replace medication?
Not necessarily. ExoTMS® is often used for people who have not responded adequately to antidepressant medication. However, any changes to medication should always be made in consultation with the treating physician and never on your own initiative.
Is there any downtime?
No. As a non-invasive treatment that requires neither anaesthesia nor surgery, you can return to your normal daily activities immediately after each session, including driving and working.
Who should not undergo this treatment?
There are certain contraindications, including the presence of specific metal implants or medical devices in the head, a history of epilepsy or seizures, and other particular medical conditions. For this reason, every treatment is preceded by a comprehensive medical assessment.
Are the results permanent?
The duration of the results varies from person to person. In some cases, maintenance sessions may be recommended following the initial treatment protocol to help sustain the clinical benefits over time.
