About

Background and approach

He holds a specialisation in Clinical Neuropsychology, postgraduate qualifications in Neuropsychological Rehabilitation and in Psychological Counselling and Psychotherapy, and a specialisation in Neuroscience and Neuroplasticity. He has also taught on postgraduate programmes in Psychological Assessment and Neuropsychology.

In his consultations, he brings two things together: time to listen to the person and the rigour to understand how they are functioning.

  • Psychotherapy for depression and anxiety
  • Neuropsychological assessment
  • Neuropsychological rehabilitation
  • Memory, attention and concentration complaints
  • Cognitive decline and dementia

Understanding how the brain is functioning

“I keep forgetting everything.” “I can't concentrate.” These are common complaints and can have many causes: tiredness, anxiety, depression, sleep, or changes that deserve closer attention.

A neuropsychological assessment helps to understand what is really happening. Using specific tests, it assesses areas such as memory, attention, language and the ability to plan and organise.

The result is not a label. It is a clearer picture that helps decide the next step.

Psychotherapy during ExoTMS® treatment

International studies have examined what happens when psychotherapy is carried out at the same time as transcranial magnetic stimulation. The results suggest that this combination may contribute to a more consistent improvement in symptoms.

That is why, when clinically indicated, psychological support can be part of the plan for people undergoing ExoTMS®. The aim is to give the person more complete support throughout the whole process.

A team, not a stand-alone consultation

At AlmaraClinic, Dr. Patrick works together with Dr. João Francisco Cunha, from Psychiatry, Dr. Bruno Gomes, from Internal Medicine, and with nutrition.

This is especially relevant in metabolic health. Changing habits does not depend on information alone. It also depends on the relationship with food, emotions and motivation, and that is where psychology comes in.
