About

Background and approach

She holds a master's degree in Paediatric Nutrition from the Faculty of Nutrition and Food Sciences of the University of Porto and a postgraduate qualification in Paediatric Nutrition from the Portuguese Catholic University. She runs outpatient nutrition clinics in a hospital setting, works as a trainer and has served on the examination panel for the Portuguese Nutritionists Association's professional ethics exams.

In her consultations, she does not hand out the same plan to everyone. She starts from each person's or family's routine, tastes and circumstances, because that is what makes change possible.

Adults

In adulthood, diet affects many things at once: weight, energy, sleep, blood glucose, cholesterol. Many people have tried several diets and always ended up back where they started.

Dr. Ana's work is not about banning foods. It is about understanding what is not working and building, step by step, a way of eating that can be sustained.

Children and adolescents

In childhood, diet goes hand in hand with growth. Each stage brings its own questions: introducing first foods, the child who refuses to eat, excess weight, eating at school.

Here, the consultation involves the family. The changes that work are the ones that make sense for the whole household, not just on the child's plate.

Nutrition and mental health

Research has been examining the relationship between diet and mental health. Nutrition is not a treatment in itself, but taking care of what you eat is part of caring for the person as a whole.

That is why, at AlmaraClinic, nutrition works side by side with Psychiatry, with Dr. João Francisco Cunha, Psychology, with Dr. Patrick Roque Teixeira, and Internal Medicine, with Dr. Bruno Gomes.
